2017 Season

The South Shore Orchestra is in its third year at Valparaiso’s Memorial Opera House as the MOH’s orchestra-in-residence!  The SSO has been broadening horizons in Porter County and beyond since 2004 – join us for our 2017 season as we continue to share our dynamic programming with the South Shore region.

This engaging 45 minute multi-media performance will introduce each of the instrumental voices of Peter and his fellow characters familiarizing students with their distinctive and unique instrumental sounds.

Join Maestro Troy Webdell and South Shore Orchestra as the explore powerful music hiding a secret past.  Featuring Dimitri Shostakovich’s explosive Festive Overture, the haunting Concerto Gregoriano by Ottorino Respighi performed by Russian violinist Violetta Todorova, and celebrating the the American composer Philip Glass’ 80th birthday with his intense Symphony No. 10.

The Passports Project on September 7 and 8 will expand our cultural connections with exploring and celebrating musical elements of various world destinations with an intense focus on one of the destinations to include expanded cultural elements such as food, architecture, literature and music.

For this project, we will be focusing on the culture of Spain. Classical guitarist Isabel Martinez will be joining SSO from Murcia, Spain for two nights of making music in downtown Valparaiso. On September 7, Martinez will perform a solo guitar recital at Don Quijote restaurant featuring music, food, and discussions about Spanish architecture and literature at our Destination:SPAIN event.

On September 8, Martinez will join Maestro Troy Webdell and the SSO for the US premier of Spanish composer Anton Garcia Abril’s Concierto Mudejar for guitar and orchestra at our Passports Concert.
